Staying connected to your strategic communication roots

While our graduates may move on from their academic experience at Mizzou, they always have a home in strategic communication. We welcome our alumni back to campus to interact with the next generation of strategic communication students. Here are a few ways alumni can stay connected to their alma mater.

Guest Talks
Planning a trip to Columbia on a weekday? Our students love to hear from guest speakers working in the industry. If you are interested in giving a guest talk, email Kathy Sharp at with your visit date(s) and topics of interest to see if there is an available class to match your topics and schedule.

Recruitment/On-campus Interviews
Alumni interested in recruiting our strategic communication students for positions at their agencies or organizations are welcome to conduct on-campus interviews. For help facilitating your visit, contact Barbara Willis in the Journalism Career Center at To register your agency or organization as a recruiter for the annual Strategic Communication Career Fair held in February, visit the Career Fair page on the MOJO Ad website.

Senior Assessment Opportunities
Seniors enrolled in their capstone course are required to meet individually with an industry professional to discuss their education, the University, the School of Journalism and the strategic communication faculty and curriculum. If you have plans to be in Columbia and are interested in doing some senior assessments, please email Kathy Sharp at with your visit date(s) and time availability. See these guidelines for more information.

Alumni Profiles
Every semester our Public Relations Writing students complete a long-form writing assignment profiling a Missouri School of Journalism alum, with the goal of being published on the School and/or strategic communication website. Strategic communication alumni who are interested in being featured for a profile (and have the time availability for one to two in-depth phone interviews with a student) can contact faculty member Holly Higginbotham at To see student-written profiles of our graduates, visit our alumni profiles page.

Teaching Opportunities
Alumni with industry experience who have an interest in teaching a short topics course that supplements the regular curriculum are invited to submit their proposal for consideration. Short courses are typically one credit and can be done on a variety of timelines, from class meetings throughout the semester to a more compressed schedule of daily classes over the course of a week or two.

Alumni living in the Columbia area who have industry experience and an interest in teaching may be considered for an adjunct faculty position teaching a section of a course that is part of the regular curriculum, such as a capstone section. For consideration, submit your CV or resume to Kathy Sharp at

Giving Opportunities
Generous gifts from our alumni offer crucial support to strategic communication programs, research projects, student scholarships and so much more. For more information on giving opportunities, visit the Missouri School of Journalism’s website.
